Volunteer appreciation at TVP

“To help where I can”

“To make a difference”

“The Excitement”

“Learning new skills”

“I love every minute”

“I’ve made a lot of friends”

(Some of the responses given when asked “what is your favourite thing about volunteering with Thames Valley Police”)

As part of National Volunteers Week, we’ve been celebrating the hard work and dedication of our Police Service Volunteers (PSV) at TVP.

Our volunteers give their time to contribute across the force, from supporting our cyber-fraud teams to help investigate serious organised crime, and making our roads safer with community speedwatch, to helping train our student officers as role players or providing support as volunteer chaplains. The sheer range of volunteering opportunities is immense.

Val Volunteer Appreciation

TVP Police Service Volunteer, Val

On Monday, a volunteer recognition events was held at Sulhamstead, with Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Barber, alongside Chief Constable Jason Hogg, addressing the volunteers in attendance. Whilst on Wednesday a second event was held at HQ South, with OPCC Chief Executive, Gillian Ormston taking Mr Barber’s place, taking questions and engaging in discussion with those in attendance.

These events were a good way to help show our appreciation to our 450 volunteers across the force who, over the year to date, have given up more than 13,000 between them, with their contributions valued at estimated £3m!

Is it time for you to do something special? If you’re looking for a challenge, where you could be making a real difference, then why not consider applying to be a Special Constable. Special Constables are volunteer police officers who hold the same powers and wear the same uniform as their full-time colleagues, giving up a minimum of 18 hour each month to help protect their communities.
