Volunteer Photographer

Wendy Taylor tells us about the role of a volunteer photographer at Thames Valley Police.

This is a diverse role covering the recording of events, such as Open Days, Passing Out, and awards ceremonies.

It requires taking photographs for use on the online and on social media to promote the work carried out by the volunteers at Thames Valley Police, and illustrate the diversity of volunteering roles, with the aim of encouraging more people to become volunteers, who otherwise may not have known about all the roles available (photography being a case in point).

A good knowledge of camera functionality is needed because one does not really know what you will be faced with on arrival. A knowledge of how to set up an image, particularly for photographing people receiving awards, is helpful so the resulting photographs look good on the wall or sideboard of the families supporting their loved ones’ success.
