From forensic scientist to Director: Kay Hannam’s career journey
As part of the Emergency Services Times #SheServesToo campaign, our Director of Forensic Services, Kay Hannam, has shared her inspiring career journey and reflections on leadership, resilience and embracing new opportunities.
Joining Thames Valley Police in 2002 as a forensic scientist, Kay has seen forensic science transform from the rise of DNA to today’s increasingly digital investigations. Her career has taken her across multiple forensic disciplines, culminating in her current role leading one of the Force’s most significant transformation programmes: the move to our new purpose-built forensic science facility in Bicester.
In the interview, Kay highlights the importance of stepping outside your comfort zone, supporting colleagues through change and remaining open to new opportunities throughout your career.
One of her key messages for anyone considering a career in forensic science is:
“Don’t create barriers for yourself before you’ve even started.”
