PCSO Ajay I-Beauchamp is one of our new Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). We caught up with Ajay to learn more about his journey and how he is finding his training so far.

Ajay, what attracted you to policing?

I had always looked at working in an emergency service and looked directly into the pathways of joining the police. Once researching what the role involved, I thought this would be a great avenue to put my skills to the test. I have always wanted to help people and support a local community. Community policing helps you to get to know your neighbourhood areas and what the public would like from their local police force. Joining the police was an opportunity for me to grow and make use of some of my past experiences and knowledge.

How are you finding your current training?

My current training has been consistent and very effective. Without my training I wouldn’t know how to put my skills and knowledge to its best abilities. Training has also helped me by developing some of my skills, especially those that I was less confident with when I first started my job. There is a lot of training involved but, most of which in due time becomes second nature. The best part about training is putting what you have learnt in the classroom to the real test, when you’re completing operational days and going onto your area.

What would you say to others who are considering to join?

There is never a dull moment in the police and each day is always different. Becoming a PCSO through the apprenticeship has allowed me to grow as a person and given me the time to progress within my role. It is important to think about how you would like to join the police, and this avenue allows you to get an insight as to what policing is about and what it involves. If you want to help and support a local community, be a part of a team and reduce the crime in an area – then this is a great opportunity to do so.
