Forcer Protocol: added protection for armed services veterans

As we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Thames Valley Police are proud to launch the Forcer Protocol within our force – a tool used by registered police forces to ensure key information is available to us when searching for service veterans who are lost or have gone missing.

The Forcer Protocol named after Alan Forcer who suffered with complex PTSD and debilitating depression following service in Northern Ireland and Kosovo during the height of the conflicts, subsequently taking his own life.

Service veterans, serving military personnel, informal and professional carers, or family members and friends, can complete a Forcer Protocol form which records vital information in relation to the veteran in case they go missing – helping accurately assess risk, and locate them more quickly.

"It is pleasing to see the Forcer Protocol launched in TVP and I hope this further evidences the forces' commitment to working with our serving military and veterans goes far beyond just recruitment. This initiative will give our teams the vital context they need to be able to best protect those that are in crisis when they need help the most."
