TVP Women’s Netball: Empowering Our People Through Sport

At Thames Valley Police (TVP), we recognise the importance of working hard and playing hard. Supporting the wellbeing of our people is a top priority, and we actively promote physical and mental health by encouraging activities that keep our team members active, connected, and having fun. The TVP Women’s Netball team is a shining example of this balance, achieving outstanding success in just one year whilst fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for female officers and staff.

The TVP Women’s Netball team welcomes all women at TVP, regardless of experience. Whether you’re a seasoned player or picking up a netball for the first time, the team offers a positive and encouraging space for everyone to thrive. With over 40 players across two teams – TVP 1 and TVP 2 – the group is growing quickly, providing exciting opportunities for women at TVP to stay active and build strong connections within the force.

Achievements and Successes

This year has been monumental for the TVP Women’s Netball team. In September, TVP hosted its inaugural Inter-Services Netball Tournament, a milestone event that saw TVP 1 finish in 1st place while TVP 2 team secured an impressive 5th . The tournament showcased the team’s talent and teamwork and raised valuable funds for the TVP Cancer Charity, a cause close to the hearts of many.

Reflecting on the team’s journey, PC Chloe, a co-chair and dedicated team player, shared:

“From humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a force to be reckoned with, showing strength, determination, and a shared passion for netball. Through challenges and victories, our resilience and team spirit have remained constant. Representing Thames Valley Police with pride, every member has contributed something special – it’s about more than wins; it’s the connections we’ve built and the way we inspire each other to be our best. Looking ahead, we’ll keep building momentum, aiming higher, training harder, and unlocking our potential. Together, we are unstoppable.”

Additionally, the team made an outstanding debut at the Police Sport UK (PSUK) competition, hosted by Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. Competing against 36 teams, TVP finished 9th overall – an incredible result for a first-year team. After a flawless first day, winning all five matches, the team earned a spot in the Gold Group on day two, where they faced the top competitors in the tournament.

Emma, a co-chair and dedicated team player reflecting on her experience, said:

“Being part of the TVP Women’s Netball team has been an incredible experience so far. It’s more than just playing netball – it’s about building friendships, supporting each other, and feeling like part of something bigger. Working in an office, I don’t often get the chance to engage with colleagues from across the force, but being part of TVP Netball has allowed me to form new connections that will ultimately benefit me in my role as well. The sense of teamwork both on and off the court is truly inspiring.”

The Importance of Wellbeing

The success of the TVP Women’s Netball team goes far beyond trophies and rankings. It’s about creating a supportive and inclusive space where female officers and staff can enhance their wellbeing, reduce stress, and connect with colleagues in meaningful ways. By fostering teamwork and encouragement both on and off the court, the netball team contributes to a healthier and more engaged workforce at TVP.
