Celebrating the National Day for Staff Networks

On 14 May, we proudly celebrated the National Day of the Support Networks. This annual event offers us a vital opportunity to recognise and reflect on the importance of our staff support networks and buddy groups, which play a fundamental role in creating an inclusive, supportive, and understanding working environment.

At Thames Valley Police, we are proud to have a variety of staff support networks. These include groups for people of different faiths, genders, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, and disabilities. This year’s theme was Intersectionality. That means recognising that people may belong to more than one group and that all parts of their identity matter. By working together, our networks help everyone feel seen, heard, and respected across the organisation.

This day also reminds us to do better. We must ensure that everyone in our force feels supported, regardless of their background, abilities, or personal challenges.

To celebrate, several events were held by our networks during the day. At Sulhamstead, we had an in-person gathering with representatives from all our networks. They shared the great work they do and enjoyed a BBQ together. It was a friendly and welcoming event for everyone.

They also ran two online webinars. Network members spoke about their work, the support they offer, and how they help to make TVP a better place to work. These sessions showed how important our networks are in supporting people and building a culture where everyone can thrive.

Celebrating this day reminds us how valuable our networks are. They give people a voice, provide support, and help create a more inclusive workplace. We are thankful for everything they do, and we will continue to support them in making TVP a place where everyone belongs.

Nita Pankhania, our Diversity, Equality & Inclusion Business Partner, reflected on the day saying:

“As we celebrate National Day for Staff Networks, I am reminded of the incredible impact our networks have on creating a supportive and inclusive environment at Thames Valley Police. Whether attending the in-person event at Sulhamstead or joining the online webinars, it was inspiring to see how our diverse networks come together to promote equality and support for all. This year’s theme of Intersectionality calls us to recognise and embrace the richness of our differences, ensuring that every individual feels valued and heard. Let’s continue to build a culture where everyone, no matter their background or challenges, can truly thrive.”
