Balancing the Badge and the Ball: The Journey of PC Chloe

At Thames Valley Police (TVP), we know how important it is to balance hard work with the things that keep us motivated. Supporting the wellbeing of our team is at the heart of what we do, and we encourage activities that help everyone stay active, connected, and healthy.

We recently caught up with Police Constable (PC) Chloe to hear her story. In this blog, she shares how she went from playing for local teams as a young girl to representing Great Britain on the international stage, showing how dedication and commitment can lead to success in both policing and football.

How did your football journey begin?

Football has been a huge part of my life since I was seven years old. I started out playing for a local boys’ team in Fleet, Hampshire, and then, when I turned 12, I joined a girls’ team. Looking back, it wasn’t easy – there were fewer opportunities for girls in the game back then. But I’m really proud of how much the game has grown since then.

My career really started to take off when I joined various Reading Ladies teams, including the first team. That led to an amazing opportunity- I earned a soccer scholarship to Minot State University in North Dakota. I played there from 2013 to 2017, and it was an incredible experience. We won a league title during my time there, and I was fortunate enough to earn a Championship Ring in my final season.

When I came back to England, I joined Yeovil Town FC in the Women’s Super League (Tier 1). Unfortunately, injuries caught up with me, particularly with my hips, and I had to step away from top-tier football. That didn’t stop me, though. I played briefly for Southampton before moving to Chichester Ladies in 2018, where I played in Tier 3 while recovering from surgery. Even though the injuries were tough, my love for football never wavered. After two hip surgeries, I was back on the pitch in 2019, and I couldn’t have been more excited to return.

Why did you decide to join the police, and how did you return to football?

I joined TVP in May 2020 after deciding to retire from football and focus on a career in policing. It was a big change for me, but I felt ready for a new challenge. However, football was never far from my mind.

In 2023, after being away from competitive play for four years, I decided to return to the pitch. I started playing with Fleet FC and then later signed with AFC Stoneham, Farnham. That same year, I also joined the newly formed Thames Valley Police Women football team, which I’ve been part of ever since. I’m also proud to play for Ashford Town (Middlesex) Women’s FC in Tier 4 and Woodley FC, staying connected to the sport I love.

How did it feel to represent GB Police on the International Stage?

In 2023, I got an incredible opportunity – I was invited to join the GB Police football team. My debut came in October 2024 against the RAF, and that was a huge moment for me. I earned my first cap, which is something I’ll always cherish.
Then, in January 2025, I played a key role in a Euro qualifier against Hungary. I was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes, and together, we secured GB Police’s spot in the 2025 Euros in Germany. It was a moment I’ll never forget, made even more special when the RAF presented me with my first cap.

PC Iestyn Llewellyn, TVP women’s football team Coach, said:

“Chloe has been an absolute asset to the team, both on and off the pitch. She’s a skillful footballer who has faced setbacks but has shown incredible resilience in overcoming them. I’m incredibly proud of everything she’s achieved, and her dedication and determination make her a valuable member of the team. It’s been a pleasure to watch her grow and succeed, and she continues to inspire those around her.”

Chloe’s story shows the importance of balancing work and passion. By combining her career in policing with football, she not only achieves success but also helps strengthen the team at Thames Valley Police. Her journey highlights the value of staying active, working hard, and supporting one another.
