Recognising Dedication, Expertise and Service at Thames Valley Police
At Thames Valley Police, our people make a difference every day. Whether protecting vulnerable people, investigating serious crime, supporting colleagues behind the scenes or volunteering their time to serve local communities, every role helps keep the Thames Valley safe.
On 29 September, colleagues and members of the public were recognised at the Chief Constable’s Awards Ceremony at Sulhamstead for their outstanding service, professionalism and commitment. The event celebrated long service milestones alongside exceptional achievements that have had a lasting impact on communities across the region.
Celebrating Years of Service
The ceremony recognised colleagues who have dedicated significant parts of their careers to policing and public service.
Long Service Awards were presented to colleagues reaching 20 years of service with Thames Valley Police, while Detective Sergeant Daniel Hope and Gary Leffers-Smith were recognised for an impressive 30 years of service. Special Chief Inspector Ian Heaford was also honoured for 39 years of commitment within the Special Constabulary. Together, these awards represented more than 420 years of service to communities across the Thames Valley.
Tackling Serious Organised Crime
A group of colleagues from Thames Valley Police and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) received Chief Constable’s Commendations of Excellence for their contribution to Operation Hurricane, a major investigation targeting an organised crime group involved in converting and supplying illegal firearms across the UK.
DS Daniel Hope, DC Robert Bowman, DC Kate Frend, PC John Middleton, Jackie Pike, PC Sophie Hill, Jody McKenzie and Stuart Gray were recognised for their professionalism, expertise and determination throughout the investigation. Their work helped secure vital evidence, identify offenders and bring dangerous criminals to justice.
Courage and Selflessness
The ceremony also recognised members of the public Gary Cuss and Chris Moxham for their actions following a serious road traffic collision. After witnessing the incident, they provided life-saving assistance to an injured motorcyclist and helped manage the scene until emergency services arrived. Their calm response and willingness to help played a crucial role in supporting the casualty during a critical situation.
Reflecting on the awards, Chief Constable Jason Hogg said:
“I am incredibly proud of everyone recognised at this ceremony. The awards celebrate people from different backgrounds and roles, but they all share the same commitment to helping others and making our communities safer.”
“Whether serving the public through a career in policing, tackling serious organised crime, or showing exceptional courage and selflessness in a moment of crisis, each recipient has demonstrated values that deserve recognition. Their actions have made a lasting difference, and they should be extremely proud of what they have achieved.
