Updated Pay Scales for Officers and Staff – Effective 1 September 2025
In line with the Home Office announcement made on 1 August 2025 confirming a 4.2% increase in police officer pay, we’re pleased to share updated starting salary details for police officers and staff at Thames Valley Police, effective from 1 September 2025.
Police Officer Pay
Police constable and detective constable starting salaries will increase to £34,164. This is inclusive of a £3,000 South East allowance, and is paid to new recruits from their first day of training. The new pay scale means that officers can expect to earn in excess of £53,000 after seven years’ service.
We are also proud to confirm that we will continue supporting military personnel transitioning into policing with our £2,500 resettlement payment.
Police Staff Pay
Police staff will also benefit from a 4.2% pay increase, with new starting salary details for selected staff roles listed below:
- PCSO (police community support officer) – £32,938 – £34,311*
- Contact Management (emergency call handlers) – £34,164
- Detention Officer – £36,325 (including all unsocial hours allowances on qualifying shifts)
*Salary dependent on shift pattern and location
