National Police Staff Awards 2026 announces: Neelam Shiraz

We are delighted to announce that Neelam Shiraz, Community and Diversity Officer (CADO) for Milton Keynes LCU, has been recognised within this year’s National Police Staff Awards; she’s their Police Staff Unsung Hero of the Year.

Neelam has made an extraordinary and lasting impact on both the communities of Milton Keynes and the force itself. Working in one of the most challenging policing environments in recent years, she has demonstrated exceptional commitment, resilience, teamwork and leadership. Her work has not only strengthened vital community relationships but has helped to shape best practice across the force.

Over the past two years, Milton Keynes has faced significant tension and serious violence, including multiple knife-related homicides. During this time, Neelam has been at the forefront of engagement, support and trust‑building with affected communities. From leading sensitive community responses following tragic incidents to transforming engagement with the African Diaspora, Neelam’s approach has been consistently compassionate, strategic, and impactful.

Her work embedding the Police Race Action Plan, redesigning the Community Engagement Plan, and her significant contribution to helping improve stop and search, demonstrate her ability to drive meaningful and measurable change. Neelam’s outreach, from supporting heritage celebrations to facilitating knife crime education for young people, continues to make her an indispensable part of our policing family.
