Meet Max – Lead Service Improvement Analyst and Advisor

Max Brialey, an analyst for Thames Valley Police. His role involves using insight to identify opportunities to consistently improve the service we provide to the Thames Valley. 

“After starting my career out in sales, I moved to TVP because I realised it wasn’t the right fit for me in terms of culture and the type of work I was doing. This was a challenging period, like for many young graduates, as they try to find their place in the world of work, and I was unsure where to go and what to do. I applied for a few different roles, including one at the Records and Evidence Centre at Thames Valley Police, which I thankfully got!

“In that job, I felt valued, which makes a huge difference, I think. I was lucky to have a line manager who encouraged me to develop. I did this by signing up for one of TVP’s development programmes as well as the leadership courses available – I did these aspirationally, as I knew one day I wanted to manage people and wanted to be ready.

“These workshops and courses were brilliant, as they helped me dial into my strengths and understand my weaknesses. I also met people from all sorts of different ranks and roles, and developedan understanding of the breadth of work involved in achieving our fundamental goal of protecting the public.

“Later, a promotion opportunity came up with Service Improvement. It was an odd one, as it wasn’t the perfect fit, but I felt there was enough in the role that I could be good at and I was ready for a change – to develop new skills, have new experiences.

“It’s a great team, and I can really see the value of what I do – I’ve made recommendations that the force has delivered, and I’m proud of that.

“Now I am in my tenth year with TVP, with several promotions under my belt. I also now manage a team of my own, which is hard but very rewarding. I try to give people the support and experiences I have had. I try to be the leader for them that I would want for myself.”
