Leading in Action: TVWN Development Day 2025
In celebration of International Women’s Day, our Thames Valley Women’s Network (TVWN) recently hosted its annual Development Day under the 2025 theme “Leading in Action.” The event brought together members and guests for a day filled with inspiring discussions and recognition, celebrating women’s outstanding contributions within the force.
The day began with a warm welcome from our Chief Constable Jason Hogg, who set the tone for the event with his encouraging remarks on the significance of leadership in driving positive change, particularly in the context of gender equality and inclusivity within policing.
Ruth Busby, People & Transformation Director at GWR & Network Rail, delivered an insightful presentation exploring leadership in the workplace. She discussed the vital role of inclusive leadership in shaping effective, diverse teams. Ruth’s engaging delivery left attendees reflecting on their own leadership approaches and how they can inspire positive change.
Louise Harrison, Chief Fire Officer at Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue, followed with a thought-provoking talk on leadership in the emergency services. She shared her experiences leading in a traditionally male-dominated field, emphasising the importance of inclusive leadership and the impact of diverse perspectives on decision-making processes.
Denise Yeats, Personal Trainer & Sports Coach, then presented her session, “Empowered Performance: Physical Foundations for Leadership.” She demonstrated the connection between physical wellbeing and leadership capabilities, helping attendees understand how maintaining physical health can strengthen resilience and enhance performance in leadership roles.
Kate Halpin from the Police History Society shared her expertise in a fascinating session on the “History of Women in Policing.” Kate’s engaging presentation explored the evolution of women’s roles in the police force and reflected on the strides made in creating more opportunities for women within policing.
The afternoon featured an inspiring panel discussion on “Leading in Action” with Detective Superintendent Lis Knight, Contact Management Supervisor Jennifer Lamboll, and Police Sergeant Kerry White. The panellists shared their experiences in leadership and how they actively contribute to shaping a more inclusive and action-oriented future for Thames Valley Police (TVP).
The highlight of the day is the Network’s Awards, presented by Detective Inspector Kelly Reed, Deputy Chair of TVWN, celebrating the outstanding contributions of officers, staff, and volunteers from across departments:

The day concluded with a closing address from Assistant Chief Constable Dennis Murray, who reinforced the importance of leadership in action and encouraged all attendees to continue making a difference within the force and their communities.
TVWN’s Development Day served as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusive leadership, empowerment, and support in creating an environment where everyone can thrive.
Deputy Chair of TVWN, Detective Inspector Kelly Reed, reflects on the day:
“I’m incredibly proud of how ‘Leading in Action’ was brought to life through every speaker, award recipient, and participant. It’s a reminder that leadership is not just about position but the actions we take each day to make a difference. Today has truly shown how each of us can contribute to building a more inclusive and forward-thinking force.”
