Tribute to Jo McIntyre – Awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM)
We are delighted to congratulate Jo McIntyre on being awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s New Year Honours for her outstanding dedication to supporting vulnerable people and improving lives across our communities.
Jo has been recognised for her exceptional charity work as Founder of the TTPNetwork, supporting those affected by Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), as well as for her long‑standing commitment to helping people impacted by domestic abuse.
Her connection with Thames Valley Police (TVP) spans more than three decades. Jo first joined TVP in 1994, working in the Control Room, Front Counters, and later as a trainer, where she discovered her passion for supporting those exposed to domestic abuse – an area that remains a significant part of police‑reported crime. After leaving the force in 2006, she continued this vital mission with West Berkshire Council and Wokingham Borough Council, before going on to co‑found the charity ‘Flag DV’ in 2012, which continues to provide free legal advice to people experiencing domestic abuse.
For the past six years, Jo has generously returned to TVP as one of our regular guest trainers, delivering monthly Domestic Abuse Matters training to our second‑year student officers. This intensive course plays a crucial role in helping officers better understand the complexities of domestic abuse and how to support victims effectively. Jo takes immense pride in this work, knowing each officer she trains is better equipped to recognise risk, respond with empathy, and make a meaningful difference.
Alongside her training with TVP, Jo works tirelessly as the Founder and leader of the TTPNetwork and also delivers training for the charity Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA), further demonstrating her unwavering commitment to supporting those affected by some of the most challenging and traumatic situations.
Jo’s BEM is a truly deserved honour, recognising years of dedication, advocacy, and service to others.
We are incredibly proud of Jo and congratulate her on this remarkable achievement.
