Transferees & Re-Joiners Opportunities

Opportunities for Transferees and Re-Joiners at TVP

There is a wide range of career opportunities at Thames Valley Police (TVP) for Transferees and Re-joiners, below we have listed some of them:

Incident and Crime Response

We are particularly interested in recruiting ICR (Incident & Crime Response) officers. The area that TVP polices provides a varied working space with opportunities to develop your career. You will have the opportunity to police vast urban and rural areas with a diverse culture and attend major events occurring within the Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire counties.

Detectives

With a force size that guarantees a broad range of crime and a reputation for solid investigations there is no better place than TVP to be a detective. We have an established, comprehensive investigative structure and are the host force for several South-East regional crime teams, for example, Counter Terrorism Police South-East.

Dependent on where you are posted within TVP, you may be entitled to an annual bonus payment. The roles we can offer are:

Temporary Detective Constable

  • You will transfer/re-join as a Temporary Detective Constable (T/DC) and be enrolled on the National Investigators Exam. If successful, you will work through your DC accreditation to become a substantive DC. T/DCs will be posted to a suitable role within our PCT (priority crime team), CID (Criminal Investigation Department), CAIU (child abuse investigation unit), or DAIU teams (domestic abuse investigation unit). After you complete the accreditation, there are several other detective job roles you can consider.
  • For Officers transferring in from a non-home office force as a T/DC, you will need have obtained PIP1 as a minimum. If you do not hold this, please contact the Transferee recruitment team Transferee@thamesvalley.police.uk so they can arrange a full Training Needs Analysis.

Substantive Detective Constable

  • You will transfer/re-join as a substantive DC and be posted to a suitable role within our PCT (priority crime team), CID (Criminal Investigation Department), CAIU (child abuse investigation unit), or DAIU teams (domestic abuse investigation unit). Alternatively, you would be able to apply for internal DC roles after a successful transferee interview.

Armed Response Vehicles and Protection Group

We are one of the largest Firearms Units outside of London. The Joint Operations Unit (JOU) Firearms is a jointly resourced unit from both Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police, which includes Armed Response Vehicles (ARV) and the Protection Group. Within our operational teams are a number of specially trained Authorised Firearms Officers (AFOs) providing an armed capability to respond to spontaneous firearms incidents and planned operations.

ARV

  • The work of the Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) Department is challenging, working to protect our communities from the most serious harm. The unit has an advanced platform to operate within, from bespoke training centres, lateral development opportunities and excellent facilities / equipment, as well as significantly investing in our staff to maximise potential. Having inter-operability across the two Force areas heightens the variety and capability further, allowing demand to be catered for aptly.

Protection Group

  • Outside of the Metropolitan Police, Thames Valley Police has the largest protection commitment in the UK. Protection Group is responsible for providing armed protection at several key sites across our region. The individuals that receive protection include members of the Royal Family, the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet. The department also provides close protection to Royalty and VIPs visiting the force area in support of the Metropolitan Police. Work within the Protection Group is extremely varied; combined with an attractive shift pattern and opportunities for further firearms specialisation, it presents a compelling challenge.

We can accept armed transferees in some circumstances, although this is dependent on compatibility of qualification. Please complete the relevant transferee/re-joiner application and attach all Chronicle training records, these will then be passed onto the Chief Firearms Instructor who will review your suitability for transfer. If your qualifications can be transferred to TVP, we will then book you in for an interview. If successful, you will receive a provisional offer of employment pending clearance of Fitness Test, Medical and Vetting. Once your clearances have been received, you will receive a formal offer of employment including your posting with at least 30 days’ notice of your start date with TVP.

Specialist Roles

We are always considering external applicants for special roles. Please complete a Transferee/Re-Joiner application (see blue buttons on this page) stating which roles you are interested in applying for. If successful at your transferee/re-joiner interview you will receive a provisional offer of employment pending clearance of Fitness test, Medical and Vetting. During this time, you will begin to receive internal job-shop adverts for non-response roles which you will be eligible to apply for. It is worth noting that for specialist roles you will be required to interview and may have to undertake additional assessments or vetting checks associated with each role. Following a successful application and clearances being received, you will receive a formal offer of employment including your posting with at least 30 days’ notice of your start date with the Force.

Non-Home Office Officers

We are pleased to welcome applications from officers who are currently serving within the below forces:

  • Ministry of Defence Police
  • British Transport Police
  • Channel Isles Police Services
  • Isle of Man Police Service

Due to the vast difference in initial training, you will be required to attend a 7-week induction course prior to being posted to Incident & Crime Response. Please apply using the relevant Transferee or Re-Joiner application (see blue buttons on this page).

Transfer or Re-join on Promotion

At present, our promotions processes are not open for external candidates. However, we would be able to accept an application from you at your substantive rank and you could then apply for our internal promotions processes, which run twice a year.
