Our people are what makes us Thames Valley Police. We work hard to attract, develop and support our people so they can deliver the best service, ensuring we protect our communities.

Ensuring our people receive the best support and professional advice, across a wide range of subjects is down to the professionals within our People Directorate, in other organisations this might be called Human Resources (HR) or Talent.

The responsibilities of this busy department are wide-ranging and include: attracting and retaining a diverse, inclusive, representative workforce, encouraging a supportive culture, promoting and maintaining health, safety and wellbeing, investing in our people with effective learning and development opportunities to build a flexible, capable and engaged workforce.

Who makes up our department?

Our People Directorate department is made up of three key areas:
Workforce Planning
Overseeing recruitment, resourcing, promotions and all related administrative services, ensuring we have the right people in the right place at the right time.
Learning and Development
Design and deliver training, mentoring, and coaching programmes, to enable our people to be at their best, building skills and capabilities.
People Services
Includes wellbeing, corporate health and support services, diversity and inclusion, employment relations, organisational design and people change, strategic integration, reward and benefits.

Our work evolves around people, so there is often opportunity to work collaboratively with operational and organisational teams.

We have a mix of administrative, advisor and business partner roles which range from entry-level to senior management posts. Not all our positions require a human resources or similar qualification – but it can be useful, particularly if you wish to develop in this function.

Skills, experience, and qualities we value

We welcome individuals who are highly organised, methodical, with good levels of attention to detail.  A background or qualification in human resources can be useful whilst a passion for employee wellbeing, and a commitment to inclusion is necessary. How we work

Many teams within People work in a hybrid style, with opportunity to work from home as well as from a central hub in either one of our Head Offices or Stations, depending on the nature of your role.
