Continuing Our Commitment: The next steps for PRAP
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has recently shared a new video featuring officers and community members, including some of our own, reiterating the importance of the Police Race Action Plan (PRAP) and why this work must continue beyond our own dedicated plan, which comes to a close next spring. The video highlights the progress made across UK policing and the shared commitment to building trust and confidence in all communities.
At TVP, our mission is clear: to protect our communities and be an excellent police force trusted by all. That trust is built not just through operational excellence, but through transparency, fairness, and meaningful engagement with every community we serve.
Over the past years, our work under our own Police Race Action Plan (PRAP) has helped us take important steps toward becoming a more inclusive, diverse, and representative organisation. We’ve made progress, but we are not done yet. Our new Trust and Confidence strategy encompasses the work of the Race Action Plan, alongside other areas that we know impact the trust and confidence of our communities, such as tackling violence against women and girls, increasing visible neighbourhood policing and ensuring we have an inclusive, representative workforce.
As ACC Dennis Murray said:
At TVP, we recognise that building trust and confidence with all communities, especially those who have historically felt underserved or over-policed, is not a one-time initiative. It is a long-term commitment. The Police Race Action Plan has helped us take meaningful strides: listening more deeply, improving transparency, and embedding inclusive practices across our organisation. These efforts have laid a strong foundation, but they are not the finish line – they are the beginning of a deeper transformation. We are not stepping away from the PRAP, we are evolving our work. Our new Trust and Confidence Strategy continues this work, embedding fairness, inclusion, and accountability into how we serve our communities.”
National Recognition
Our colleague Inspector Rupinder Gill, representing SAME (Support Association for Minority Ethnic staff), is featured alongside nearly 30 other forces in the NPCC’s brochure highlighting examples of innovative practice related to the Race Action Plan across the UK. Rupinder’s contribution showcases the impactful work happening within TVP to support, engage, and promote equity for minority ethnic staff.
What’s Next?
We’ve made real progress over the last four years- but we know there’s still work to do. Continuing the work initiated by the Police Race Action Plan isn’t just about following a plan. It’s about keeping our promise to be fair, inclusive, and transparent in everything we do.
The Trust and Confidence Strategy is how we move this commitment forward. It builds on what we’ve learned and what our communities have told us matters. It’s about making sure that fairness, inclusion, and accountability aren’t just words – they’re part of how we lead, how we engage, and how we serve all our communities.
TVP is proud to be leading nationally on trust and confidence. But real leadership means staying open, consistent, and committed to doing better- together with our communities.
