Given our vast rural and urban areas, sometimes it’s the greater variety of jobs available at certain ranks and often we’re just a shorter commute! In addition, with the five year wait to re-join rule now removed, it’s easier than ever to return to policing.
We have made good progress in the past few years with regards to flexible and part-time working opportunities – whilst there is still more work to do, these developments enable us to re-open doors some people may have thought were closed forever.
To be eligible to join as a transferee or re-joiner, you must:
- currently serve within another Home Office force or have served within a Home Office force
- have passed the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP)
- have successfully gained ‘fit for independent patrol’ status (FIP)
- live within 20 crow miles of one of our main police stations
The recruitment process will follow a set programme of application, paper sift, competency based interview, vetting (including biometrics), medical checks, reference checks and fitness test. Numerous interview dates are available and we can accommodate a range of dates for medical appointments and fitness tests.
All officers must attend an initial two week induction course at our Police Training Centre in Sulhamstead near Reading. Accommodation is available for those who live outside of travelling distance.

Inspector Richard Nicholls rejoined TVP in early 2019 having left his role as Neighbourhood Inspector for Wolverton & West in 2010:

Having been out of the service for nine years, I was keen to rejoin in a role which allowed me to contribute more practically towards policing.
